Admissions

Consultation

When changes are proposed to admission arrangements, all admission authorities must consult on their admission arrangements that will apply for admission applications for the following school year at the normal point of entry. Where the admission arrangements have not changed from the previous year there is no requirement to consult subject to the requirement that admission authorities must consult on their admission arrangements at least once every 7 years, even if there have been no changes during that period.

Determined Admission Arrangements

The School Admission Regulations require admission authorities to set (‘determine’) admission arrangements annually. For entry in 2024 all admission authorities must have determined their admission arrangements by 28 February each year. Longfield Academy determined their arrangements in December 2020 and reviewed them February 2023.

Once arrangements have been determined, any objections to them should be referred in writing to the Schools Adjudicator. For entry in 2024 objections must be referred by 15 May in the year of entry. The Schools Adjudicator can be contacted at:

The Office of the Schools Adjudicator, Bishopsgate House, Feethams, Darlington, DL1 5QE

You can also contact them on 01325 340525 or by emailing the team at osa.team@schoolsadjudicator.gov.uk

Once admission arrangements have been determined for a particular school year, they cannot be revised by the admission authority unless such revision is necessary to give effect to a mandatory requirement of the Code, admission law, a determination of the Adjudicator or any misprint in the admission arrangements.

At Longfield, our aim is for our learning environment to be inspirational, exciting and welcoming. As a result, the transition from primary to secondary is a time that pupils can enjoy and enables our new Year 7 pupils to have the best possible start to their time at Longfield.

Transition days at Longfield are an opportunity for pupils to experience everything our school has to offer, from the following new timetables to joining in with enrichment activities. Pupils are supported in order to ensure that they quickly begin to make progress, make new friends and form strong relationships with the teaching and pastoral staff. A team of dedicated staff in a variety of roles work closely with pupils, parents / carers to support them during this time.

Staff also liaise closely with their primary school colleagues to ensure that all of the important information is shared, making joining Longfield a positive experience. Above all, pupils enjoy their transition days with us, meaning they can look forward to joining us the following September.
