WELCOME TO

Longfield Academy

As Headteacher, l am extremely proud to be serving the community of Longfield and the surrounding area. I have led four other schools, steering one to outstanding which led to me becoming a National Leader of Education, one from requires improvement to good, and another that became the highest achieving school in the county.

Since my arrival in April 2022, I have implemented many changes to support Longfield Academy on its journey to becoming a place of outstanding educational provision.

This week, we had the pleasure of welcoming Martin from The Listening Post - Darlington into school to deliver some extremely important assemblies on mental health.

The service is a fantastic support for anyone that needs to talk to someone impartial or that is struggling. Their work with schools is vital to our community and we're delighted to work with them.

Thank you to Martin for talking to our pupils.

THIS WEEK IS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK. The Listening Post offers Listening and Mentoring sessions to children and young people who live and/or study in Darlington. At our recent Listeners Gathering we asked some of our listeners what THEY get out of being a listener... each day this week we will be posting some of their responses.

Today is Miriam C, Miriam is a Listener into Longfield Academy and has been a listener since 2023! What she enjoys about being a listener is - 'seeing the kids turn up week after week because they want to'

Do you have a couple of hours to make a difference to the lives of a young person? We are just about to run an Effective Listeners Course at Darlington College for five weeks from Thursday, 4th June, 5pm - 8pm. Interested? Email ListeningPost@dacym.co.uk for more details.

Maybe you can't give the time, but you could make a special donation this Mental Health week to support our work account.stewardship.org.uk/gift/start/20357547

I just wanted to contact you to say that my mum and I attended the pantomime on the 8th December at Darlington and we were seated with your school. Your pupils were so well behaved and polite. All pupils were great and a credit to your school.

I was impressed with the open evening and wanted to pass on my positive feedback. My daughter is hoping to start in September 2024, and I can see the school is moving in the right direction. Complements to Mrs Sweeten and the staff.
