Longfield recognises the importance of full attendance and aims to ensure that all pupils achieve and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality. We are committed to providing a full and efficient educational experience for all pupils.
Regular attendance is a prerequisite to a good education and therefore a priority for the school. The table below indicates the impact that poor attendance may have on outcomes. We urge all parents / carers to work collaboratively with the Academy to support any issues that may impact on good attendance.
If your child cannot attend school for any reason, please contact the school before 9:00am via T:01325 380815, choosing in Option 1.
Alternatively, you may email the attendance officer via attendance@longfield.nalp.org.uk
Punctuality
Please ensure that your child attends school on time.
If your child arrives to school after the official close of morning registration (9:15am) this may be marked as an absence and will have a significant impact on your child’s overall attendance percentage. We work closely with the Local Authority under the ‘Working Together to Support Attendance’ document. Working together to improve school attendance (publishing.service.gov.uk)
The information below illustrates the impact that punctuality can have on learning. 5 minutes late = 3.4 days missed learning
- 10 minutes late = 6.8 days missed learning
- 15 minutes late = 10.3 days of missed learning (50 lessons)
Only a 66% chance of achieving 5 good grades
- 20 minutes late = 13.8 days of missed learning
- 30 minutes late = 20.7 days of missed learning )100 missed lessons)
The average expected GCSE grade is lowered by 1 grade
Under current regulations, schools cannot authorise any holidays taken in term time unless there are “exceptional circumstances”, deemed “exceptional” by the Headteacher. If the Headteacher decides not to authorise the holiday and he intends to refer to the Local Authority for a Penalty Fine should the holiday go ahead, he will write to the parent/carer warning of his intention.
If you have any questions about attendance or would like further information, please contact the Attendance Officer, on T: 01325 348149 / E: attendance@longfield.nalp.org.uk

LOA approval is at the discretion of the Headteacher only. The outcome of the request will be communicated with parents via telephone / email.
